Wales Tales - September 2006 |
Kids are back to school and the pace of things will continue to build as we move toward the Holidays and the up and coming snowmobile riding season – only 3 months away.
Coming up on your club calendar is the Club’s picnic to be hosted this year by Bob and Laura Johnson at their home on 9851 West Main Road in North East on Saturday, September 23rd starting at 1:00pm. Remember Bob needs your reservations by September 15th to plan for the food. If planning on going, please give him a call at 725-0107 or 504-6551 and let him know. Bring a dish to share and the club as usual will be providing the beverage and meat. I hope to see lot’s of you there.
Next on your calendar is the first general membership meeting of the season – Thursday September 28th at 8:00pm at the Greene Township Building. Come and catch up on all the details facing the club as we head into a new season. This year is quite different from those of the past couple years; new issues and problems confront the club. As communicated last month, the membership year was shifted ahead a month to be closer to the riding season. And that is still the case. But, due to no fund raiser, no Poker Run last year and current unusual expenses for the Yanmar, the club is running a little tight on capital. Therefore, you will find a membership application attached to this newsletter. We would like you to consider submitting your membership renewal now versus later to help to continue ongoing club operation. Lend your support and input – see you at the meeting!
Two more trail improvement projects have been completed. Last year the worst trail section on our system was the trail parallel to Dutch Road just off the gas line – mud alley. Not any more! With the new earth bridge on the gas line and the wet area on the gas line filled, 13 truck loads equaling over 80 cubic yards of base fill and dirt were moved in to be placed on this messy trail area. It’s going to be so much better! Use this year will highlight any spots that we might have missed (it can’t be very many). The other completed project was the replacement of the wood bridge off Horseshoe Dr. across 4 Mile Creek with a new steel beamed bridge. It’s now the best bridge on the whole trail system! The beams were placed early this summer but the wood topping and ramps were completed just this last month.
Property where the trail left Dyer Road east of the Game Lands is in the process of being sold. This is going to require the trail to be rerouted to make the connection to Turner Road. It looks like there is an alternative but like all changes it’s going to take some work!
Not all identified trail improvements at the start of summer are going to be completed. The focus has been on the worst and demanding. The ones with the highest priority have been addressed. The balance of incomplete projects will not be forgotten but will roll to next year. Our trail focus for the balance of the year will be on general trail maintenance. All trails will have to walked, cutback and brush-hogged as necessary to make them ready for the coming snowmobile season. That’s where you can help. Starting the weekend of September 30th and each following weekend, work crews will be needed. The plan is to meet at the Route 8 Fire Hall each Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9:00am and leave with equipment and tools for the day’s work.
Tentative Schedule:
September 30th – Plum to Knoyle October 1st – Peck to Wales
October 7th – Route 8 to Heibel October 8th – Mark to Dutch
Will you be able to come out and Help?
Announcement – Leisure Time Honda Suzuki on Route 6 in Corry has newly taken on the Bombardier line. Those with Ski-doo interest should check them out for sales, parts and service.
