Wales Tales - October 2009 |
Wow! Can you say wet Summer and Fall? I hope there will be some moisture left for the Winter season.
Membership Meeting: The first general membership meeting of the season was held Thursday, September 24th. There were 15 members and 9 board members present.
Our newly acquired 2008 Ski Doo Skandic worksled was on display at the meeting. It has been outfitted with the necessary hitch and lighting to pull our drags. It looked great and the only work left to get it ready is to add picks. A big Thanks goes out to members Steve Hair, Dan Postlewaite and Kent Kessler for acquiring and outfitting our newest equipment addition; it should serve us well.
We had the opportunity to sell both of our older worksleds and put this up for a vote. The membership present voted to sell them both for $1,000.00 each. We are now pursuing a second newer worksled to complement our Skandic.
Kent mentioned that our DCNR grant for the big groomer received a final blessing from the Transportation dept., but since they also need to write the contract and get signatures, it will still be a while before funds are released and sent to us. Hopefully progress will continue.
Many members present at the meeting filled out their "The Million Dollar Club Support Program" forms.
General Trail Maintenance: A lot of trail work has already taken place. If you are interested in lending a hand this year to ready our trails, please give Mark Matczak a call at 796-6666 and let him know when you are available. If he is not there, please leave a message.
On October 10, 2009, five of our members, Lance Dunn, Randy Slomski, Fred Morris, Marc Matczak and Kent Kessler attended groomer training in Emporium, PA. The class provided a lot of good information and was sponsored by PSSA.
Memberships:
It’s that time again to start thinking about renewing your club membership. Your current membership expires at the end of November. Please don’t wait until the last moment! Just fill out the attached application and return it with your check. All snowmobilers should belong to a snowmobile club! Trails do not happen on their own. Membership dues make up approximately half of the club’s funding. More applications for your riding buddies are available on our website,
www.walessnodrifters.com.
Club Support Program: Have you remembered to participate in "The Million Dollar Club Support Program"? If you have not had the chance yet, please look at the attached fundraiser. This is a real easy way for us to raise some needed cash for expenses. So far, we have collected 34 forms. This equates to $340.00 in funds for our club.
Thanks to all who have submitted forms.
If you have not already done so, please fill out the form and send it back to the club and we will forward them on for processing. Again, each returned form will allow your club to receive $10.00. There is a limit of one form per member, but if you have multiple members in your household, please feel free to return a completed copy for each member.
The program ends on 11/15/2009, so please return soon!
Feel free to bring your completed forms to the October membership meeting or
send your completed forms to: Wales Sno-Drifters, PO Box 7223, Erie PA, 16510.
Notice: We will continue to caution everyone to only ride on the trail which the Game Commission approves for us to follow through the Game Lands. Snowmobile trails are open in the Game Lands from the 3rd Sunday in January until April 1st, only on marked trails for registered and insured snowmobiles.
Riding is not permitted in the Game Lands this season until January 17, 2010.
Our next membership meeting will be on Thursday, October 22nd at 8:00PM at the Greene Township Building. Come hear what’s taking place and bring your new membership application and your "The Million Dollar Club Support Program" form.
See you at the meeting – T. Bowers
