Wales Tales - October 2007

October got off to a very warm beginning. Let’s hope it has all that warmth out of its system. We do NOT need a warmer than normal winter! One good aspect of the current weather is that it has been very supportive of the trail workers.

Membership Meeting: The general membership meeting was held Thursday, September 27th. Attendance was light at 11. This was not surprising for the first meeting of the new season.

Trails: Trail work on Sunday, September 30th was minimal; just Marc Matczak and Brad Bilski. Weather was cooperative but the equipment wasn’t. Sunday, October 7th was much better. Weather was good, the equipment was all working and there were more workers; Marc Matczak, Brad Bilski, Mark Omniewski, Mark Sonney, Lance Dunn, Tom Desser, Tom and Joe Dipko. A quote from your Trail Leader, Marc Matczak; "Sure is nice when you have a nice warm dry day AND helpers!!!" They have made progress but there is still more to do. Can you help? Call Marc – 796-6666 and let him know when you are available.

Memberships: It’s that time again to start thinking about renewing your club membership. Your current membership expires the end of November. Please don’t wait until the last moment! Fill out the attached application and return it with your check without delay. More applications for your riding buddies are available on our website – www.walessnodrifters.com. All snowmobilers should belong to a snowmobile club! Trails do not happen on their own. Membership dues make up approximately half of the club’s funding.

Charity: Our club’s charity partner over the past several years has been the Greene Township Food Pantry. Last year we changed our donation collection from a single to a seasonal effort. We now accept contributions and donations October thru December. Last year’s total from the club and members was $450. Much more than we have every collected before! The goal this year will be to exceed that number! Can you help? Keep in mind the need in the community and the service the Food Pantry provides. Come to the membership meetings and donate or mail in your contribution. Be part of this very worthwhile initiative. Keep in mind that for every dollar contributed it is doubled by matching gifts and the Food Pantry can buy $17 of food with each dollar. So, each of your donated dollars equates to $34 of food for someone that is in real need!

Warning: We continue to caution you and all your friends NOT to ride on the Game Lands except for their approved trail after mid January. The Game Lands are a restricted area and regulated for use by many outdoor enthusiasts (we are but one). Areas of concern are along the gas line that crosses the game lands and the area south of Siegel Road. If we fail to communicate and control the misuse of the game lands by snowmobilers, we will lose all and any trail rights. Please heed and take this warning seriously.

Don’t forget the next membership meeting will be Thursday, October 25th at 8:00pm at the Greene Township Building. Come and hear what’s taking place, bring your new membership and make a contribution to the Food Pantry.
