Wales Tales - November 2008 |
Many area residents have already had a taste of snow this year. Are you getting everything in order for a fun filled season of snowmobiling?
Membership Meeting: On Thursday night, October the 23th the membership meeting was held at the Greene Township Building. Attendance was up from the September meeting with 15 interested and supportive members in attendance. At the meeting it was announced that we had successfully sold our large enclosed equipment trailer for $3,250.00. Thanks go out to Fred Morris for performing preparation work on the trailer and to Chris Curtis for moving the trailer and handling the sale.
A change to our bylaws ARTICLE IV DUES, Section 3 is being proposed.
Current wording: Dues shall be paid for the membership period of November 1st to the following October 31st. Any member joining the Club after January 1st will not be charged a renewal fee for the following year.
Proposed wording: Dues shall be paid for the membership period of December 1st to the following November 30th.
Fundraiser
: Our first fundraiser of the season is a raffle. Enclosed you will find 10 tickets that we are hoping you will be able to sell or buy on behalf of your club. The winners will be drawn on 12/18/2008. First prize is $500.00, second prize is $250.00 and third prize is $150.00. The seller of the First prize ticket will receive $25.00. Please bring your sold tickets and money to the November or December membership meeting or mail them to our Post Office Box address. Please support your club and just maybe someone you know will have extra spending cash for the holidays or for some gas money. See the enclosed letter for additional raffle info.Charity Drive: The first of three collections for the area food pantry was taken. While not many were in attendance the collection was very generous - $83.00 was donated. You too have time to add your gift to this worthy cause. Donations will also be taken at the November and December meetings. If you don’t think you will be able to attend either of these meetings but would like to donate, you can mail your donation to; Wales Sno-Drifter, Inc., PO Box 7223, Wesleyville Station, Erie, PA. 16510. Your donation will enable them to buy $34 of food with each $1 donated. Lend your support behind your Club’s charity drive.
Trails: Continued progress has been made at clearing and preparing the trails. Great job by Marc Matczak and all his fellow trail workers! A special thanks to everyone that has helped with our trail work so far. The next major undertaking is to place all the trail signs and markers.
The weekend of November 22nd and 23rd has been planned for this task. If you can help, please plan to meet at the Greene Township Building at 8:00 A.M. each morning to get assignments. With enough help, this one weekend should be enough. Please consider lending a hand.
This year’s ride leader coordinator is Marc Matczak. Please remember to stay on the trails when you are riding. Do not stray from the trails onto other’s private property – especially when marked with signs to stay off.
Acknowledgements: Dan Postlewaite is working to improve our trail drags by looking into obtaining better actuators and installing them on our drags. His efforts should improve their reliability. Thanks Dan!
Memberships: Have you filled out and submitted your membership application for this season yet? There are two big reasons to get it done. First, your current membership expires at the end of this month. Could this be your last Wales Tales? Secondly, your membership fee helps the club’s bank account so we can pay the bills. Grooming is not free or cheap. Although it’s only been a few weeks since this year’s applications were first mailed, we currently have 1 new member and more than 30 renewals.
To assist those that have not yet renewed their membership, an application has been included in this mailing. If you haven’t yet joined, please take the time to fill it out and return it. We need every one of last year’s members to renew their membership and help keep Wales Sno-Drifter’s trail system open and groomed. If you have already sent in your renewal, thank you very much, but don’t throw the attached application away! Give it to a friend or riding buddy that’s not currently a snowmobile club member.
Poker Run: With good snow conditions and great support from the membership, this event should be fantastic. Please reserve Saturday, January 31st 2009 for this big event (2/7/09 will be the no-snow date). More info to come as plans are finalized.
Next meeting: The next general membership meeting will be held Thursday, November 20th at 8:00 P.M. at the Greene Township Building. Please take note of the week earlier date. This happens in November and December due to the Holidays. Mark your calendar, plan to come out and hear what the club is planning, make a donation to our charity drive or just to deliver your completed membership renewal. Whatever the reason, see you there.
