Wales Tales - November 2006

Can you believe that white stuff so early in the season! Just remember that trails Do NOT open until mid December after hunting season. So far this season the average temperature is 7 degrees colder than last year. This will be good if it will continue through the rest of the winter. We would not want a repeat of last year! Snow should not get too serious until we have a chance to finalize our trail work.

Speaking of trail work; what are you doing Saturday, November 18th? We sure could use your help in putting the trail markers and signs in place. Mark your calendars and meet at the Greene Township Building at 8:00am to commence this task. With a good number of member volunteers we will make quick work of putting the finishing touch on our trail system and have it ready riding on the white stuff. Please let Ken Zambrzycki know 825-9257, if you can come out and give us a hand.

On Thursday night, October the 26th the membership meeting was held at the Greene Township Building. Attendance was up only slightly – 14 interested and supportive members.

The first of three collections for the area food pantry was taken. While not many in attendance the collection was generous - $69 was donated. You too have time to add your gift to this worthy cause. Donations will also be taken at the November and December meetings. If you don’t think you will be able to attend either of these meetings but would like to donate, you can mail your donation to; Wales Sno-Drifter, Inc., PO Box 7223, Wesleyville Station, Erie, PA. 16510. Your donation will enable them to buy $34 of food with each $1 donated. Lend your support behind the Club’s charity drive.

Have you filled out and submitted your membership application? There are two big reasons to get it done. First, your current membership expires at the end of the month. Could this be your last Wales Tales? And secondly your membership fee helps the club’s bank account so we can pay the bills. Grooming is not free or cheap. Currently only a third of the membership have responded. That still leaves 83 of you in need of completing this simple and vital task. To assist you, an application is attached. Please take the time to fill it out and return it. We need every one of last year’s members to renew their membership and help keep Wales Sno-Drifter’s trail system open and groomed. If you have already sent in your renewal, thank you very much, but don’t throw that attached application away! Give it to a friend or riding buddy that’s not currently a snowmobile club member.

As we mentioned last month, the plan to regain good financial footing is with an excellent Poker Run. With good snow conditions and support from the membership, this should not be a problem. So you need to reserve Saturday, January 20th for this big event (1/27/07 no snow date). More to come as plans are finalized.

As we have stated, our finances are not real great right now. The membership has been stepping up to help in several ways that keep our expenses low. We owe them a big THANK YOU! On top of the list are our friends at Off Road. A dealer that is very supportive of our sport. They have again signed up this year to underwrite a portion of out grooming expenses. When you need a sled, parts or service consider Off Road – a snowmobiler’s friend. There are a few other examples of members assisting our effort. Tom Mack who made his equipment and time available to help bush-hog the eastern end of the trail system from Halfmoon to Raymond Road. Mike Callahan, who works with Erie Petroleum, made a storage tank available for our groomer fuel and gave us a great price on the fuel. Rich Fields who continues to provided space in his barn to store the drag and Yanmar groomer out of the weather.

The next membership meeting is Thursday, November 16th at 8:00pm at the Greene Township Building. Please take note of the week earlier date. This happens in November and December due to the Holiday’s. Mark your calendar and plan on coming out to hear want the club is planning, make a donation to our charity drive to the Food Pantry or just to deliver your completed membership renewal. What every the reason, see you there.
