Wales Tales - July 2007

Summer warmth has come.  Does that potentially relate to a winter not being that far away?  Summer is a very busy time for most.  Graduation parties, vacation planning and picnics.  Even without snow your club has been very busy as well.

Let’s bring you up-to-date: In April Fred Morris coordinated the club’s road cleanup effort for Earth Day.  Twelve individuals gathered April 21st.  It would have been helpful if a few more people could have come out and assisted.  This year the weather cooperated and was a nice day and the work got done quickly.  The group removed trash from all of Wales Road and Knoyle Road from Kuhl to Wales.  The road cleanup crew consisted of; Mark Sonney , Mark’s son Mark, Jon Matczak, Steve Curtis, Jim Menzel, Kent Kessler, Fred Morris, Bob Hunt, Dan Postlewaite , Vanessa Alloway, George & Denny Engesser.  In approximately 4 hours these volunteers picked up over 25 bags of trash from the road way – where does it all come from?  I hope all club members are good stewards of our area and would not throw or leave any kind of trash on our roads or trails.

In support received from Greene Township, several of our club members came out to assist with the Greene Township Cleanup Days; May 19th and 20th.  These club members were; Tom, Anita and Joe Dipko, Gary Darr Fred Morris, Bob Hunt, Steve Curtis, Steve Hair , Kent Kessler, Larry Myers and John Matasowski.  This event demonstrates to the Greene Township residents that the snowmobile club is appreciative of the area and people.  In addition to the unloading effort with the resident’s recyclables, two club members, Steve Hair and Tom Dipko provided special services.  Steve through his business, Bayport Heating - Cooling, provided equipment and labor to remove the freon gas from all the old refrigerators.  Tom with his connections at his employer, Firestone, was able to process the over 600 used tires turned in during the two days.  Steve and Tom’s contribution to the cleanup days saved the township several hundred dollars in fees and rentals and I’m sure it is very much appreciated.

Your board has continued to meet monthly to perform the business of the club and work against our list of trail improvements.  15 trail projects have been identified for action this year (last year there were 16).  Project leaders have been assigned and planning is underway.  Six projects have been started with two already completed.  We are planning for a great snowmobile riding season with trails that will be better than they have ever been.

The annual club and landowners picnic is being co-chaired by Kent Kessler and the Engesser’s (see attached flyer).  This year, the picnic will be held at the pavilion by the playground at the Greene Township Building on Sunday August 19th at 1:30.  Please mark your calendars now and plan on attending – food, fun and games.  Bring a dish to share and the club will furnish the meat and beverage.
