Wales Tales - December 2006 |
Ho, Ho, Ho
– Merry Christmas! Tis the season to be merry; especially if it snows.Trails are shaping up. Scheduled trail signing on Saturday, November 18th went very well. It was cool but thank goodness it did not rain. There was ample help – 18 people took on the signing task and the majority of it is completed. Trails other than the Game Lands will be open December 10th after hunting season. The Game Lands WILL NOT open until January 14th and their extended hunting season. Please respect the Game Commissions timing for they control a major connector to Phillipsville and the #4 trail to New York.
On Thursday night, November 16th the membership meeting was held at the Greene Township Building. Attendance continues to grow slowly – 21 interested and supportive snowmobilers attended.
The second of three collections for the area food pantry was taken. An additional $66 was collected – that brings the members donation to $135. You too have time to add your gift to this worthy cause. Donations will also be taken at the December meeting. If you don’t think you will be able to attend this meetings but would like to donate, you can mail your donation to; Wales Sno-Drifter, Inc., PO Box 7223, Wesleyville Station, Erie, PA. 16510. Your donation will enable them to buy $34 of food with each $1 donated. Lend your support behind the Club’s charity drive. The club will add its contribution to the membership gifts and the total will be submitted for matching gifts and presented to the food pantry in January.
This year’s membership drive is now over. To date, 73 members have renewed along with 6 new members. Thank you very much for your support. That is sad compared to the 131 members we had last year. If you know anyone that has not renewed, gently remind them it’s not too late, for after this, they will no longer be receiving the newsletter or considered a member.
Trail changes!
The club has negotiated with the property owner on the corner of Dutch Road and Route 8 for a NEW connector to the gas line. Those riders coming south on Dewey Road, once they cross Route 8 will see the new trail markers that will take them to the end of the gas line. From there you can connect to the main trail, make a stop at the Beechwood, or get gas all with less road riding.
You win some, and loose some. On the other side of the coin, we have lost a valuable road in Lowville. Sunshine Lane, the road just south of the BP gas station on Route 8, has been marked and posted as no ATV’s or snowmobiles by the Township! This longtime access route is
gone and you should take note of barriers and the new postings. Access to the backside of Klick’s is still viable but will not be marked as a trail. Alternate routing will be a lot more roads; stay on Hill Rd. all the way down to Haskell Hill Rd., out pass the hardware store to Route 8, cross French Creek on Route 8, in behind the old middle school to Creek Rd., near route 89 your option will be back onto the trail up the hill to Tower Rd. or back into Lowville for gas. Major change! Spread the word to other riders.Poker Run
There is a lot of excitement growing over the up coming Poker Run. Changes this year will provide for extra opportunities to win some dough. There will be 7 stops and you go to as many and in any order that you choose. So, the more riding, the more stops the more opportunities for a great poker hand. The event sponsorships have been good and having great snow conditions on January 20th would be the icing on the cake. See attached flyer for more details.
The next membership meeting / Christmas Party is Thursday, December 21st at 8:00pm at the Greene Township Building. Please take note of the week earlier date due to the Holidays. The meeting will be short and the festivities will commence. Bring a favorite snack or finger food to share (beverage will be provided) as we celebrate the holidays and the beginning of a hopefully great snowmobile season. Come and join in.
