Wales Tales - April 2009 |
It was quite a winter season with near-record snowfalls.
Hopefully you were able to get out many times and enjoy it to the fullest extent
possible. Here we are in the middle of April and I think the snows are finally
done now until next Fall. The trails are closed and the general membership
meetings are over now until September. Before we start the Summer activities
though, think about helping out with a couple of club activities coming up soon;
Earth Day cleanup and the Greene Township cleanup. Details for these activities
are below.
Thanks for being a club member! Talk to you again in the September newsletter.
Membership Meeting: On Thursday, March 26th, the membership meeting was
held at the Greene Township Building. There were 9 Directors and 10 members
present. The season was tough on our groomer sleds. They both needed late season
repairs. It was decided that we will plan to sell one of them in the fall, since
we anticipate the purchase of a newer and heavier duty grooming sled to take its
place. We are still planning to obtain the large trail groomer with our grant
money, but this is now expected to take longer than originally anticipated.
At the Board Meeting, the remaining board positions were determined and are:
Vice President- Keith Zambrzycki
Chairman of the Board- Rob Tobin
Treasurer- Chris Curtis
Secretary- Lance Dunn
Corresponding Secretary- Tim Bowers
Trail Equipment- Randy Slomski
Trail Boss- Ken Zambrzycki
Trail Assistant- Zack Barnett
Awards: In last month’s newsletter we listed our nominations to ECSA
for distinguished service to our club and sport during last year. The other area
clubs submitted their nominations as well. At the ECSA Spring Banquet held March
21st, award winners were announced and presentation made:
ECSA Snowmobiler of the year – Marc Matczak
ECSA Snowmobile Dealer of the year – Off Road Express
ECSA Snowmobile Club of the Year – Tri County (Corry)
ECSA Snowmobile Family of the year – Dale Zimmer
ECSA Snowmobile Business of the year – Wildside
ECSA Snowmobile Hall of Fame – Jeff Ludwig
Fundraisers: The drawing was held for the beautiful handmade throw and
pillow donated to the club by the Greene Township food pantry. The winner
was Rita Postlewaite. Congratulations Rita!
Trail Closing: The weekend of April 4th we had a great turnout for
the closing of the trails.
23 members put in a great effort pulling markers and placing everything in
storage.
The workers were:
Kent Kessler, Tim Bowers, Jim Johnson, Fred Morris, Bob Hunt, Lance Dunn, Tony
Desser, Alec Slomski, Tony Nowakowski, Mark Husted, Bob Soeter, Zack Barnett,
Steve Hair, Regan Tanner, Trey Tanner, John Luchs, Dale Williams, Steve Curtis,
Marvin Miller, Randy Curtis, Keith Zambrzycki, Ken Zambrzycki and Marc Matczak.
Ken Zambrzycki would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all that helped.
Next Meeting: There are no scheduled general membership meetings from now
until September. So, enjoy the Summer and stay safe. The board will continue to
meet and plan work on trail improvements. These trail projects will need some
willing workers. Please respond if called upon to help.
Coming events to keep in mind:
1)We will help celebrate this year’s Earth Day on Saturday, April 25th.
This is when we show the communities how much our club appreciates the area that
we enjoy so much during the winter time by removing the trash from along the
roadways. All members planning on giving a helping hand to the cleanup should
plan on meeting at 9:00am at the Greene Township Building on Tate road. We will
need drivers and trash pickers.
We will pick up trash along Wales road from Station road to Route 8 and also on
Knoyle road from Kuhl road to Wales road. Gloves and safety vests will be
provided.
Anyone needing further information on the Earth Day cleanup, please contact Fred
Morris at 899-6307.
2)We will help at the Greene Township Spring cleanup on May 16th and 17th
from 9am till 2pm each day. As you may or may not know, Greene Township
makes our meeting room at the township available to us at no cost. Not having to
pay rental fees, allows these funds to be applied to trail improvements.
To show our appreciation to the township, we work with the township supervisors
and area residents to help process their recyclables. It’s a great time!
Please contact Steve Hair (725-2132) to sign up and give a hand on one or both
days of this year’s Greene Township cleanup.
Have a great summer!
T. Bowers
