Wales Tales - April 2008

Here it is April with all the trails in the area closed. It wasn’t a bad snowmobile season and it wasn’t the greatest, but it sure allowed for some enjoyable snowmobiling while it lasted!

Membership Meeting: On Thursday night, March 27th the membership meeting was held at the Greene Township Building. Attendance was 13 supportive souls. New officers assumed their new positions. Updates were given on the Lottery fund raiser and the Groomer grant

Awards: In last month’s newsletter we listed our nominations to ECSA for distinguished service to our club and sport during last year. At the ECSA Spring Banquet held March 29th. Award winners were announced. We came away with four honors:

ECSA Friend (Business) – Frank Bellay’s Sabre Equipment

ECSA Snowmobile Family of the year – the Marc Matczak's

ECSA Hall of Fame – George Engesser

ECSA President Award – Kent Kessler

Trail Closing: Saturday morning April 5th we had a great turn out for the closing of the trails. 19 members put in a great effort in pulling markers and placing everything in storage. The workers were: Marc Matczak, George Engesser, Jim Johnson, Bob Hunt, Mark Sonney & son, Fred Morris, Tim Bowers, Ken Zambrzycki, Chris & Steve Curtis, Clay Fails, Ralph Eades, Steve Hair, Dale Williams, Regan & Trey Tanner and Tom Mack. All the work was completed in one day and Marc extends a hearty THANK YOU to all that came out to help. A thank you also goes to Mike Murdock for supplying new spools to store all our rope.

Marc Matczak, our Trail Coordinator, would like to give a big THANK YOU to all that helped.

Lottery Winners: 305 lottery cards were sold. $610 was paid to 11 winners. Unusual winners were Dan Postlewaite’s cat and Tom Bevan whose number (183) hit twice. $2440 was added to our groomer grant matching fund. Thanks to all who helped make this a very successful event!

Next Meeting: There are no scheduled membership meets now until September. So, enjoy the summer and stay safe.

Coming events to keep in mind:

Earth Day, April 19th, this is when we as a club show the communities how much we appreciate the area that we enjoy so much during the winter time by removing the trash from along the roadways. All members planning on giving a helping hand to the cleanup effort should plan on meeting at 9:00am at the Greene Township Building .We will be needing drivers and trash pickers. We will pick up trash from along Wales Road and Knoyle Road from Kuhl to Wales Road. Anyone needing information, please contact Fred Morris at 899-6307.

The next activity will be Greene Township Spring cleanup on May 17th and 18th from 9am till 2pm each day. As you may or may not know, the Greene Township makes available the room we meet in at no cost. Not having to pay rental fees, allows these funds to be applied to trail improvements. To reciprocate and show appreciation, we work with the township supervisors and area residents process their recyclables. It’s a great time. Contact Steve Hair (725-9313) to sign up and give a hand on one or both days.
